Bit of a weird concept, but imo to make it better maybe only have the heat "activate" when the male and female are an official couple? And the only way to do that is this special switch that turns on when they have sex for the first time? Maybe have it activate and deactivate on specific conditions? A whole lotta room for worldbuilding here ngl
