I would recommend any game in the Fallout series except the latest one (of course, if you mod it, since the developers are usually too lazy to fix some issues).

I always play games on max difficulty. I'm replaying the Halos on MCC, and holy fuck I've never experience such an unfair slog. Beat Halo Reach, but Combat Evolved is gonna make me paint the ceiling red.

I get the appeal of difficulty but im not that much of a masochist to get through a slog of gameplay for every game I play
For my first playthrough on MCC: Halo,Halo 2 and Halo 3 I played on normal then tried hard afterwards for each in the 2nd mission and I just alt f4'd each time lmao

It makes the first time playing good games fun, challenging, and you enjoy it for longer. Games that do max difficulty well are the types that make you and the enemy just as weak, all the weapons devastating, and your resources are limited. Games that did this well, are: The Last of Us, Max Payne, Metro, Wolfenstein, Spec Ops: The Line, and many more.
The worst offenders have to be: Fallout games, CoD games, Halo Games, Farcry 2 and more. These fuckers just make them have aim bot masters or bullet sponges
